Growing up playing goal, I had an up and down career in the Western Hockey League playing 5 years, being selected to the WHL All Star Team and earning team MVP for two consecutive years. I also played at University of Calgary for two years under future Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Willie Desjardins and one year under future Pittsburgh Penquins head coach Mike Johnston. During my second year we were ranked #1 in the Country and at the start of the CIS Championship Tournament my knee blew up and I was unable to play.
The next year, I turned Pro in the ECHL and the following year signed a contract to play Div 1 in Sweden. I never fully recovered from my knee injury and had to retire after 3 years of professional hockey. Even though I was fortunate enough to be drafted by the NHL New Jersey Devils, knee injury aside, it is my belief that I did not have a strong enough mindset to pursue an NHL Career. Those mental mistakes I made inspired me to do what I do with athletes today.
